Sam is 47, married to Celia and with 3 young children. They live in Chichester. He is now a senior executive with PricewaterhouseCoopers the global accountancy firm and in fact he is best known for his work in the world of high finance. He used to present the Business News on Radio 4. He has worked on documentaries for the Money Programme. He has written 2 books, one about the disgraced financier, Robert Maxwell. But Sam is less well known for his early work as a frontline reporter with the BBC. When he was acting Northern Ireland correspondent in 1982 he was 300 yards away from a bomb in Ballykelly which killed17 people. He covered the Oklahoma bombing. He was the first BBC correspondent to report live from the site of the Long Island aircrash disaster. He went on to report on the capsize of the Herald of Free Enterprise, and the terrible fire on the Piper Alpha oil platform
